Safe Space For Youth by Backaslash

At Backslash we have been working for almost two years on a project that aims to educate and train youth workers and young people to support prevention and early intervention activities at the local level to address mental health. This project is called Safe Space For Youth.

Together with our project partners (FIP and SEMWELL) we have generated interactive educational materials, based on non-formal education methodologies, that help and support both young people and youth professionals to work on mental health.

The teaching materials we have generated are:

  • For Youth Workers: Wellnes and wellbeing coaching scheme and action toolkit and accompanying train-the-trainer programe
  • For Youth: Peer leadership programme

All this materials are free and you can found it here: E-learning | safespace4youth.eu

In addition to generating all these materials, we are implementing and testing the Peer Leadership programme with young people from the three countries of the project partners.

This implementation consists of running the peer leadership programme with a group of young people and that this same group generates its own social action to raise awareness about the state of mental health of young people.

The aim of the peer leadership programme is to encourage young people to become role models for other young people, in this case on metal health issues, to encourage their active participation and to create connections between young people.

In the case of Backslash, we have worked with a group of young people from the town of Massanassa during 2 sessions to generate an awareness workshop that they themselves will implement during the month of July for other groups of young people.

We will soon have the results of this implementation and of the work done by this group of young people.
