Connect recently participated in the “Youth advocacy for human rights and democracy” training course, organized by the Council of Europe Youth Department in partnership with the European Youth Forum and the German Federal Youth Council.
Held in Strasbourg from January 26-31, the event coincided with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, providing an opportunity for participants to engage with national delegates.
The course brought together representatives from national youth councils, international youth organizations, and networks across 23 European countries. aiming at strengthening youth civil society and activists, helping them advocate for human rights and democracy, and ensuring youth perspectives are integrated into Council of Europe initiatives at national and local levels.
Through workshops, conferences at the Parliamentary Assembly, and debates with different delegations, participants had the chance to:
- Gain insights into the Council of Europe, its institutions, and standards for democracy, human rights, and youth participation.
- Develop skills in human rights-based advocacy and create effective advocacy strategies.
- Share knowledge and learn from best practices in human rights advocacy, youth participation in decision-making and working with decision-makers.
- Connect with the Youth Department’s projects, including Youth revitalising democracy.
- Collaborate on advocacy initiatives supporting youth participation in elections, removing barriers for youth candidates, and ensuring structures for youth involvement in decision-making.
