We are excited to share a key milestone from the TOKENISM project: the successful online testing of our eLearning course “Combat Tokenism – Building Inclusive Youth Participation.”
TOKENISM addresses a challenge that many of us recognise in our daily work with young people:the risk of including youth in processes in a superficial way, giving them visibility, but not real voice or decision-making power. This course has been designed to help youth workers, educators and organisations move beyond tokenism and build genuinely inclusiveparticipation practices.
🎓 WHAT THE COURSE OFFERS
The eLearning platform is structured around three core modules that guide learners through the theoretical and practical dimensions of inclusive participation:
- Module 1 – Understanding Tokenism and Inclusion
- Module 2 – The Participation Ladder
- Module 3 – Intersectionality and Representation
- Module 4 – Co-Creation and Shared Decision-Making
- Module 5 – Implementation and Sustainability
Each module includes visual content, reflective exercises and downloadable practical tools (such
as the Power Mapping Template) ready to use in your organisation.
🤝 BUILT WITH YOUTH WORKERS, FOR YOUTH WORKERS
The course was recently tested in a collaborative online session with participants from Spain,
Germany, Croatia and Saint Martin. Youth workers and educators navigated the platform live,
reviewed the content and contributed feedback to shape the final version.
This co-design approach reflects TOKENISM’s core commitment: building resources that respond
to real needs across diverse European contexts.

Following this testing phase, the platform will be publicly released as a free open educational
resource, available to any youth worker, trainer or organisation committed to building more
equitable spaces for young people.
