Project overview

BE CONNECTED in 2023 supported CONNECT International and its members in advancing digital rights, access, citizenship and innovation in the youth sector. Through network activities, policy development, stakeholder engagement and communication, the programme strengthened cooperation and increased the organisation’s impact across Europe.

In 2023, CONNECT International implemented an EU-supported operating programme focused on digital rights, digital access, digital citizenship and digital innovation in the youth sector. During the year, CONNECT and its member organisations delivered 111 activities across these four areas, directly and indirectly involving approximately 7,100 people. The network developed four policy documents, engaged with more than 300 representatives at the national level and over 1,000 representatives at the local level, and reached more than 2.7 million people through its centralised online communication. CONNECT also welcomed five new members, strengthened its Brussels-based Secretariat and updated its Strategic Approach for 2023–2025.

Project Results

Activities focused on AI ethics, online mental health and the prevention of hate speech, discrimination and revenge pornography, reaching more than 270,000 people through 37 activities. The work also contributed to policy recommendations on mental health in digital environments.

Initiatives addressed unequal access to digital opportunities for vulnerable youth through sport, gamification and green IT approaches, reaching around 235,000 people and supporting policy work on digital literacy and inclusive access to technology.

Activities supported active youth participation in digital democracy, reached more than 640,000 people and led to a policy recommendation document on inclusive digital citizenship and participation.

Work promoted innovative, co created digital tools and essential digital competences for youth work, reaching more than 310,000 people and supporting social innovation hubs and preparation for AI related developments.

Internal governance was strengthened through statutory reform, new membership recognition schemes, an updated strategic approach and expansion of the network. A dedicated policy team also co developed four policy recommendation documents.

Advocacy engaged local and regional authorities, national ministries and youth councils, and European institutions through more than 40 bilateral and multilateral meetings.

Four major campaigns reached more than 1.2 million people, while combined online outreach across all channels exceeded 4 million people.
