We are excited to announce the launch of the Research report on Digital youth work. 

The Re(In)novating project seeks to explore and address the current state of digital youth work, identifying both the opportunities it presents and the challenges it faces. Our research is divided into two key parts: a desk research study and a primary research survey, both of which are integral to understanding the broader landscape of digital youth work and its implications for youth workers, policymakers, and young people.

Desk Research on Digital Youth Work

The first part of our research is a thorough desk study, which reviews and analyses existing policies, standards, and best practices related to digital youth work. The desk research focused on identifying the existing frameworks, gaps, and opportunities in digital youth work by analysing over 30 different documents, including national policies, international reports, and academic studies.

The study also emphasizes the need for a systemic approach to digital youth work, where digital tools are not merely add-ons but integral components of youth work strategies. It calls for enhanced digital literacy among youth workers, clearer standards, and better professional development opportunities to ensure that digital youth work can be implemented effectively and sustainably. Furthermore, the research advocates for the political and social recognition of digital youth work, highlighting its potential to empower young people as active and informed digital citizens.

Primary Research on Digital Youth Work

The second part of the research involved primary data collection through surveys and interviews with 200 stakeholders, including youth workers, policymakers, and young people. This primary research aimed to gather first-hand insights into the current capabilities, challenges, and perceptions surrounding digital youth work. The research sought to understand how youth workers are currently engaging with digital tools, what challenges they face, and what support they need to be more effective in a digital environment.

This research provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of digital youth work, offering valuable insights and recommendations for stakeholders across the youth work sector. The findings underscore the importance of developing clear standards, enhancing digital literacy, and ensuring that digital youth work is recognized as a vital component of youth engagement and empowerment. We believe that this research will serve as a crucial resource for youth workers, policymakers, and organizations seeking to navigate the complexities of digital youth work.
